Despite having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Sam has immersed himself in sport with an enthusiasm and fortitude that would shame a prince of sloth into activity. At a personal level his goalscoring exploits at powerchair football in 2011 ensured National Premier League status for his team; however it is his support of others that makes him inspirational. Nowhere is this more evident than via his older brother's club and county cricket. Sam's presence at cricket in the North of England combined with his convivial nature and sporting knowledge has constantly created a frisson of joy amongst players and their parents. This characteristic has I believe created a mind-set amongst elite, able-bodied age-group sportsmen that states "you don't have to be an elite athlete to make an impact." A legacy that they will take into their adult lives long after Sam has left them.
