In 2007, after years of pain, Sally underwent a spinal fusion operation having suffered a fractured spine playing hockey in 1996. The injury had curtailed her sporting career, having played hockey and basketball for the County and also at University. Following her Sports Science Degree in York, she followed a career in Sports Sponsorship and worked for 4 years with the England Cricket Team. Sally also captained Reading Hockey Club for several years. Whilst at RHC, she wrote a weekly column for the local papers on hockey and is still well known by Dave Wright at the Reading Post. Had she not had the back operation, she would now be in a wheelchair, but with a passion for sport, the operation has given Sally a determination to get back to fitness and on 13th July 2011, she will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro for Help for Heroes, a charity she was inspired to raise for having met 2 amputees after her operation. To date she has raised £14,400 and intends to run the London Marathon next year and climb the Inca Trail. As her parents, we are very proud of her - the last 3 years have not been easy but she has taken a very positive attitude and her determination to succeed in her mission is inspirational. It would be one of her proudest moments to hold the Olympic torch. As a little girl she had always aspired to the Olympics, but injury cut that dream short. Please look at her website and be inspired. www.bmycharity.com/V2/sallyclimbskilli2011. Jan and David Wilson
