Sally's nomination story

Sally has been the 'driver' & motivator behind a range of services which have been developed for the elderly & disabled in Worcester.

Firstly she developed a Community Car scheme, then added a mini-bus service with specially adapted vehicles and then an MPV - also adapted. She has searched for funding for replacement vehicles and ensures that clients only have the best! She knows and supports all the volunteer drivers in the project and has been know to go 'on the road' when emergencies happen. Sally has also developed a Shopping & Gardening service for elderly & disabled clients and a Befriending service. She devotes over 50 - 60 hrs per week to her role (even though she's only paid for 30hrs). Sally is also aware of the needs of other client groups and has worked hard to support young people into volunteering as well as people with disabilities. Sally is also involved as a Trustee in a number of other organisation in the city. Throughout the city Sally is known for her commitment to, and passion for, the voluntary sector. She speaks up on behalf of the sector and makes sure that the statutory partners are always aware of the sector if changing or developing services. All this is done through the fact that Sally has a disability herself which affects her hands, arms & legs making walking difficult, amongst other things. But she never, never lets her own disability get in the way of her commitment to her role in the sector and in her own organisation. She's also olympic mad
