Ryan's nomination story

My nominee is Ryan, 29, from Plympton, Devon. Ryan is our inspiration! A special young man who gives generously of his time, energy and passion in helping troubled young people have a chance in life, when everything seems against them. Ryan, a Teaching Assistant in the Torbay Pupil Referral Unit, helps put disaffected youngsters back on track. His dedication to working with vulnerable teenagers, seen through his enthusiasm to encourage and promote positive behaviour and learning, is commendable. An inspirational role model! Youngsters in his care look to Ryan for help and guidance. Evenings, Ryan is part of 'Young Devon' supporting vulnerable/disaffected youngsters 12-25, (those in care; young carers; offenders.) As part of a staff team he travelled to Bulgaria with 'Young Devon' spending two weeks decorating an orphanage. He has since initiated a home and school charity to collect toys for the orphanage. Ryan is a 'Supported Living' carer for the vulnerable 16+, an overnight support worker for homeless and troubled teenagers. A local lad, Ryan supports Argyle and plays for a local football team. For all of us who know Ryan, we think he truly represents everything that is brilliant in unsung heroes.
