Ruth is 15 . When she was 12 she underwent 9 hrs of major spinal surgery for scoliosis as her spine had twisted 84 degrees off centre . She was in significant pain prior to her surgery and became the first person in the world to have a new spinal implant fitted to straighten her spine . What is so remarkable is that Ruth is a keen gymnast. It was uncertain if Ruth would ever be able to do gymnastics again but within 4 months of her surgery she was back training at her club and took part in the Teamgym British Championships soon after and has gone on to represent GB at the European Teamgym championshipsin Malmo in 2010. Teamgym is not an olympic sport - highest ranking is european level but her dedication and commitment befits any olympic champion. She has had to learn new ways of using her body and spine in particular which is held in place with four metal rods. She never complains , regularly misses normal teenage activities with friends and studies hard at school . She is an inspiration to all who meet her and supports other children going through surgery to straighten their spines . Please consider Ruth for this momentus event - she wont let you down .
