I would like to nominate Ruth my Martial Arts teacher from my early days in the sport. She was kind and enthused about taking a non sporting person such as myself and ensuring I had an excellent grounding in the sport. Incredible patience, as I got frustrated with myself. Eventually she trained me to compete and reach my black belt. An achievement for me. I am not alone, she has taught sports to many others. But that is not why she should be considered! Her day job made her the ideal candidate to shine. She was an Independent advocacy for children and young people with additional support needs within a Scottish charity. When I listen to her work stories I am in awe about how calmly she was able to help the most vulnerable in society. I am particularly impressed with her work with teenagers exploring their transgender identify in combative home environments. Often these teenagers are forced out of their homes. In these difficult financial times for everyone she is committed to working without job security to help others. She is committed regardless of the status of her charity funding. She is also a mother of a small child and a huge We Are Scientist fan. She is awesome!
