Ruth is a truly inspirational person. Ruth gives large amounts of her time coaching young people in Devon to become multi-event athletes. Not only does she spend many evenings in the week coaching, she attends every competition, often travelling around the UK. Ruth prepares personalised exercise schedules for each young person so that they develop whilst keeping injury free and also organises and accompanies young people and their families on trips abroad to benefit from international multi-event coaches. Over the past 20 years, many of Ruth's students have gone on to represent their County, Region and Country. Ruth's love of athletics stems from her own successful career in multi-events, which inspired Ruth to become one of the country's most expert coaches. Ruth is extremely knowledgeable yet she is unassuming and shares her experience and information without seeking recognition for herself. Ruth's mild manner and encouraging approach enable her to identify and develop the potential of young people who are clearly inspired by her. All of this is done on a voluntary basis. Ruth has also been instrumental in encouraging women of all backgrounds and abilities to take up running in the South West. Ruth has also organised a number of charity races, calling upon her celebrity athletic contacts to raise the profile of these events. Ruth puts so much time, thought and effort into helping others, she deserves to have her moment to shine as a Torchbearer.Line 9: Delete 'multi-events' Insert track and field athletics.
