Rupert has Downs Syndrome. He is very able. He enjoys sport; He rides his 3 wheeler trike in traffic. He is unable to read or write. He goes to an excellent, innovative and much respected Hastings day centre called The Parchment Trust Co-operative. He is 34 and lives away from home with a young Bexhill family. Rupert has lived in Bexhill all his life. His father was born in Hastings and was a local solicitor. His mother taught in local schools. His grandfather was a Hastings Magistrate for over 40 years. Because he has always lived here and been to a local school, Rupert is known for his happy cheerful character by many many many people (from all walks of life in Hastings and Bexhill) . For 22 years he has done a weekly free paper round and still does it. He was nominated and won the Bexhill Young Achievers Award for doing the paper round so regularly We (his parents) and many other people think he would be an ideal canditate to carry the torch 300 metres between Bexhill and Hastings.
