Within a year of Roy joining Ponders End, he was appointed Captain for both Cross-Country and Track & Field, inspiring many new athletes to enter the sport even if they were amateurs. Roy continued to run in events throughout the 60's and early 70's but as time went on he gradually slowed and decided to go in to the management/organizational side of athletics. He became Treasurer his club followed by being the General Secretary and even jointly as Secretary and Treasurer for a time. In 1965 Ponders End had amalgamated with Enfield A.C. to become the Borough of Enfield Harriers. Roy is an active Official for UKA and currently works on many of the Televised and Domestic events, proving a popular and friendly member of the Officiating Team. Athletics has formed a huge part of Roy's life, it would be an enormous privilege to think that he may have an opportunity to take part in the Torch relay.
