Roy has been a member of Thames Valley Harriers for over 50 years. Initially, as a competitor, he was a key member of the Club's road running teams and then a strong supporter of the young athletes teams as his own son proved to be a talented runner.
For the last 25 years Roy has devoted many days to inspiring and motivating the Club's young athletes. As a coach he is out on Wormwood Scrubs, rain or shine, with his group. 10 years ago he could barely walk, but following a double hip replacement once again at the age of 65 he was jogging across the fields with his athletes! And still is!
Not content to be only a coach, Roy is mini bus driver, team manager, mentor and BBQ organiser. He has worked tirelessly for the youngster s of TVH, turning out numerous Cross Country, Road and track teams. Not all teams were winners but Roy has a great ability to motivate those down the field to come back and try again and again?.
Roy's enthusiasm to the sport, continues and only this year he managed the winning Middlesex county U13 track and field team to victory for the first time in the county's history.
Roy was also awarded the Hammersmith and Fulham Outstanding Achievement Award for 2011 in July. CR
