Rowan's nomination story

Rowan is an exceptional yet unassuming young lady who has a strong sense of justice and always tries her best to support others in her community. She is heavily involved in scounting and recently succeeded in applying for and receiving grant funding for the scout group and other members of the village community to travel to Ypres for Remembrance Day as part of a 'Remember Them' project around the history of the area and its residents. Over the past six months she has been instrumental in establishing an Explorer Scout unit locally and is supporting leaders in planning events and activities as well as proactively raising funds for a 2013 group trip to Nepal. Through Explorer Scouts, Rowan is undertaking her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and is also a Young Leader for the Scout group. At school Rowan has proven herself to be dependable and an exceptional team member, gaining sports awards in five different activities. In 2009 she received a Community Award at school, chosen by her peers, in recognition of her support for others. Rowan has a good sense of humour, is a fantastic and supportive sister to her younger brothers and would be an asset to the torch bearing team.
