Ron is a local athlete and committee member of Athletics Club Dundee Hawkhill Harriers. Inspirational is probably the best way to describe Ron. Ron is a double leg amputee and has 2 artificial legs from the knee down to support him in his every day life. Despite his disability Ron is still a very active and inspirational figure within the Athletics community. His ongoing carrer as an athlete is quite incredible, he is still a constant figure at all local Disability athletic Heats and his enthusiasm and passion for the sport is quite incredible. The work Ron also does within the Club committee and also out in the community is again testament to his personality. Ron is a very valued member of the Dundee Hawkhill Committee and he spends a lot of time helping to shape the future of the club. He attends all committee meeetings and over the last year he has volunteered several hours attending community Run, Jump & Throw programmes and giving presentations to the children & young people on not only Dundee Hwakhill Harriers and what the club stands for but also discussing the positive impact that sport and sports clubs can have on a person's life. Ron is a very inspiring person and to be able to connect and command instant respect from young people who are 1/4 his age is a fantastic trait to have. This year Ron was rewarded for his efforts at the annual Dundee Sports Awards where he was awarded the Jenny Wood Allan memoriable trophy for his significant achievement in overcoming physical barriers to participating in sport.
