Ron's nomination story

Ron is my 70 year old dad. He remains very fit and committed to his love and passion for Rugby League and the promotion of all sports in schools. He has had a 50 year career, both paid and voluntary in sport, in particular, Rugby League and Disabled Sports. He was Head of PE at Knottingley High and worked there for 25 years. On retirement he had a school sports co-ordinator post where he worked in excess of the part time hours for which he was paid in order to encourage students and staff of the importance and value of sport in schools, and of being part of a team. He travelled to Russia to take part in an observational project about sport in Russian schools and was inspired by what he saw. He is Yorkshire Schools Rugby League Secretary and works tirelessly for school children and teachers across yorkshire to promote and organise sporting events/tournaments. He has recently researched and written a book about the History of Rugby League in Yorkshire schools which has been an inspiration and put brilliant memories of now retired teachers into print and images. The book is in the completing stages of publication. Whilst at KHS he organised and took part in a sponsored cycle around Europe to raise a substantial sum for a colleague who became seriously disabled as a result of an accident. He is a much loved and admired man for his passion and commitment to sport and for his charitable and generosity of spirit. He went to the olympics in Montreal and Barcelona.
