Roger Poyser

I would like to nominate my dad, a keen sportsman, who has devoted both his professional life and leisure time to the promotion of personal development and participation in sport at all levels of ability. While managing day care services for adults with learning disabilities he pioneered the "soft environment" and designed equipment to provide safe movement outside of the wheelchair. Alongside parents he raised significant funds to build a hydrotherapy pool. For 23 years he was a committee member of the Federation of Disabled Sports Organisation, setting up courses and events and funding training for the Para Olympics. He was involved with the Gemini Project, supporting adults with a learning disability, to experience working and sailing on the Tall Ships. He has never sought recognition but I feel the spirit of Olympic Games,reflects his own values of commitment, discipline and passion for participation and achievement in sport.
