Roger is the driving force of Deer Park Archers, from organising to coaching, publicity to development. His efforts are not just confined to the development of the club but to the sport as a whole where he contributes at county and national level. At the beginning of the year the Club won the Sport and Recreation Alliance Club of the Year 2011. As a coach he attends most practice sessions (5 times a week) and is always available to help, he sorts out and brings kit required to each practice session, and solely maintains the shooting area and field course. Spends a lot of time organising club shoots and practice sessions and leads the activities to integrate beginners into the club. His boundless energy and enthusiasm have a great effect on all those that attend the club. He leads the clubs application for grants and awards, along with maintaining the club website and writes the weekly club newsletter. As club development officer he leads a lot of the work in the clubs role in the community especially with Active Gloucestershire. Probably his greatest contribution is his innovative ways of engaging members to practice more often, try different things and keep the costs of archery to an affordable level!
Roger has coached a number of archers to British Champions, including his daughter who went on to shoot for England and Great Britain.
All of this and he still finds time to compete reasonably successfully!
