Robyn Smith

Robyn is a truly inspirational young person. At the age of 17 she has already notched up more than 200 hours as a community volunteer with our local Disability Multi sport Club, she gives up spare time in the evenings and holidays to encourage young people with all disabilites to enjoy and take an active part in sport, many of the children she coaches have not had this opportunity before. She won the Junior Volunteer 2010 for the New Forest Sports Council and the same award for Hampshire & Isle of Wight, no mean feat as she was 1 of 20 nominees. Robyn is on the Youth Sport Trust Steering Group and was one of the main players in lobbying the government to look again when it announced that all funding for School Sport partnerships was being withdrawn. She was interviewed on our local BBC programmes South Today, spoke on the local Radio Station and went to Downing Street to hand in the petition that she organised in the New Forest primary and secondary schools. Robyn was invited into the Houses of Parliament to meet with MP's and by presenting her cause in a mature and impassioned manner the MPs agreed to suport her cause. The government then reviewed their original decision and funding has been resumed. Robyn is qualified as a football leader and helps coach girls football, she is also part qualified as a referee. She is qualified to coach Wheelchair basketball up to Level 2 and spends Thursday evenings coaching at out local school.
