The youth football team that Bob coached enjoyed a couple of very successful seasons, finishing 2nd in the league and winning the League Challenge Cup in his final season as coach. Last season TAFC finished 2nd in their league, the clubs highest ever position and were narrowly beaten in the final of the South Midland Floodlight Challenge Cup. For a club that doesn't have a budget for paying players, this is a great achievement.
But it is not all about the winning - Bob's work with young players has seen them develop not only football skills, but life skills and values to take with them into adult life. He enjoys seeing the boys develop as players, whilst learning to take responsibility for their actions as part of a team, and continues to have a rapport with the young people & their families in the village.
Bob is passionate about the community of Tring and invests of himself year on year to ensure the people in his community continue to benefit from the facilities offered by the sports clubs and teams he has represented. I would like to see Bob have the opportunity to reflect on his contribution and enjoy the majesty of the Olympics through participation in the torch relay. Bob is one of those people who quietly delivers with little expectation of recognition and it would be great to give him this amazing experience back.
