Robert's nomination story

Taking part in the London 2012 Torch Relay is not only a unique lifetime opportunity and a dream come true for me and my family, but also the chance to participate in an event which I believe will showcase the best that the UK has to offer. I am lucky to have been personally involved in the build up to London 2012, starting in 2009. The team I lead are a very dedicated set of individuals who have given not only their working life over to the success of the games but also large parts of their personal time to ensure that the games are a memorable event for all. Recruiting, developing and training a team to delver critical services to LOCOG has been my personal marathon, but the satisfaction of seeing those individuals developing, working as team and supporting each other has been a reward that I will be with me for the rest of my life. During this time I have been inspired hugely by the sporting endeavour and achievement of many but no more that when I had the chance to spend some time with Kevin Simpson one of our paralympians from Beijing who came to our company to deliver an amazing story of determination at over coming life threatening injuries to represent his country. I was able to pass this experience on to my children which helped them understand what can be achieved and how lucky we are to have our health and fitness.
