Andrew's nomination story

andrew is a work colleague of mine who encouraged me to undertake a charity cycle ride in aid oif Friends of the Cancer Centre (at Belfast City Hospital) Following the death of my wife in 2009 as a result of cancer i was at a low ebb, very overweight and unfit. the chance to help others with cancer sparked something in me and with Andrew's encouragement i began training with him and another friend to cycle round every church in the Church of Ireland diocese of Connor. this was 361 miles of cycling over 5 and a half days in june 2010. we completed the cycle and raised just short of£50,000 for the Friends of the Cancer Centre.'

andrew went on many training rides with me and helped me prepare for the ride'

without Andrew's friendship and encouragemt i would not have thought of undertaking such a task. i am now 4 stones lighter and pretty fit. so in a way i literally owe him my life'

andrew is an inspiration and has literally helped me live again after the death of my wife.'

i firmly believe he is exactly the sort of person you are thinking of as a torch bearer.
