During the year 16 September 2010 - 15 September 2011, Rob has undertaken a number of activities for both fundraising and helping the community (both in the UK and abroad).
On the fundraising front, he ran the Virgin London Marathon in April, raising around £1500 for RAFT, this was the 15th time he has run the London Marathon on their behalf, raising in excess of £21,000 in total.
With regard to Community, he is heavily involved in his local church, helping with a Friday night youth club, including a youth weekend in October and a week long 'houseparty' for 70-80 young people in April. He also leads the sound team, which included running the sound for 5 Carol Services over 2 weekends, each of which had 40-50 musicians plus a choir of over 50, with between 4,000 - 5,000 people attending in total.
Finally, he helped on a DIY trip to a Palliative Care Hospice in Oradea, Romania in mid September. As a team of 10 he redecorated two houses of some of the poorer patients, although his main role was helping with laminating the flooring of the offices and counselling room in the hospice. This helped to make it a more pleasant environment for the team of nurses/ counsellors dealing with some very distressing situations
He does youth work on average 2-3 evenings per month during term time, getting there at 6.00 p.m. to set up and leaving around 11.00 p.m. For the Carol services, there was considerable preparation before sound checks and services, which meant up to 8 hours on the two Sundays and the Saturday before Christmas. He has developed his sound engineer skills over the past 9 years and these were vital to ensure the hard work of the musicians was not in vain.
Romania involved using his Life Event leave and undertaking whatever role the Hospice required of them (in this case it was mainly helping lay the laminate flooring)
In addition to the monies raised for RAFT (£1500 this year & £21,000+ to date) and NSPCC (£15,000 by the team) both events have help
