Richard (Rick) Kenney has been involved in the sport of judo for some 47 years as a player, referee, coach and then Chairman of Judo Scotland the national body for judo in Scotland. Over the years he has coached and help develop literally thousands of young (and older) judo players. He was the coach at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland and had the most successful haul of medals of all the Scottish sports taking part. He has worked tirelessly over many years to develop his sport and has made a real difference to many peoples' lives as a result. He was awarded the high grade of 7th Dan (red & white belt) a few years ago in recognition of his judo achievements and was made Vice President of JudoScotland. He moved to the Scottish Borders some 8 years ago and worked for the local Council and as a volunteer developing sport across the area and has set up many new initiatives in a range of sports to encourage local sports persons to enjoy sport, improve their health and to be all they can be. He has set up new projects in swimming; disability sport; cycling; local sports councils and has obtained funding to assist local talented athletes up to 2014. Rick is an inspirational person who has dedicated his life to making sport available to all over a long number of years. He is retiring in 3 weeks time but will probably be busier than ever after that! Anyone who knows my husband would agree that he should have a moment to shine!
