Richard's nomination story

Richard is registerd blind, has no vision at all and is a student of RNC Hereford, completing his first year of 2 or 3 years of A level equivalent studies in ICT and Sound recording and editing. He has also set up his own website and is working on another website project. Richard was previously educated and gained 7 GCSEs (A*, 4As B D) in a Mainstream school, an inspiration to staff and fellow pupils alike in Junior and Senior departments at all times, taking part in Residential trips which involved sports, walking, climbing and other activities with the best of them. As well as completing his Bronze D of E award and gaining Exam grades in both singing and flute Richard performed in both Drama and Musical productions throughout Junior and Senior school. For the last five years, as a Senior pupil Richard ran the 1500 metres with a sighted guide at Sports day, representing his house. Again an inspiration to all, it was wonderful to hear his fellow pupils, both peers and others cheer him up the home straight, and to watch him wave to them in response. This run will take place without him this year and when I heard the launch of the Flame relay I could think of no more worthy young man - in asking for his consent to nominate him his response was - oh that would be lovely - a great experience! I supported this young man throughout his Junior and Senior school in a full time capacity and I have nothing but praise for the positive attitude taken towards his disability.
