Ray's nomination story

My dad helps his local community in many different ways. He's a Samaritan, giving up time every month to help the vulnerable, depressed and lonely. He often takes the late night shifts and has worked on Christmas Day. Running is one of my dad's loves and he's run the London and New York marathons for charities including Shelter, NSPCC and the Holocaust Centre. Over the years he's raised over £2500 for different charities through these races. One of his other loves is books and, in the recent World Book Night, my dad volunteered to hand out books in his local community. And, having been a steward at his local Methodist Church for over six years, he's now training to be a local Methodist preacher and is currently preaching every couple of weeks at various churches in the Barnsley circuit. He's embraced this with the same passion and enthusiaism as everything else he does!
