Rakesh's nomination story

I strongly believe that being an Olympic Torchbearer is a privilege that should be given to hard working individuals who contribute to society and are a role models. Rax is such an individual. He is a Special Constable who has recently given up much of his time to protect London businesses from rioters, risking his own safety on a voluntary basis, whilst he never lets this get in the way of his day job at the Halifax. His work in and out of work is truly admirable and I can think of no other colleague that deserves this privilege more than him.

I have been a volunteer police officer for two years, bridging gaps between the police and Asian communities. As Special Constable, I have various duties which involve dealing with different situations. As the saying goes 'before you save the world and environment you always start doing it from home', so I work in my own borough aim of keeping the streets safe. The highest recognition for me is where others are now following in my foot steps in becoming Special Constables. I guide them from the very start of their journey in becoming a police officer.

I also support International Society Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). I support the temples and festivals throughout the year by giving up my time in doing devotional service. ISKCON is a forum to educate and enlighten people regarding our faith. It also ensures that visiting members of public or devotees who visit the temple can have an enjoyable experience. CR
