Rachel's nomination story

For years I have dedicated myself to promoting animal conservation and educating the public on the importance of protecting endangered species for future generations to enjoy in the wild. I have been a volunteer at London Zoo for 2 years, working every other Sunday even when I'm ankle deep in snow! I educate children on animals and try to inspire them to champion the importance of conservation in the community and amongst their peers. It is a very fulfilling role and I love seeing a young child's face light up with excitement up as I'm teaching them interesting animal facts. I also spent 3 months volunteering at an Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo, Malaysia. I educated local villagers on the importance of Orang-utan conservation and alternative sources of income other than poaching so as to promote a safe environment for rehabilitated Orang-utans to be released back into the wild.
