Our nomination comes from the students of Kingfisher Class at Larkrise School in Wiltshire for students with ASD, SLD and PMLD. Rachel joined our school five years ago and progressively rolled out a challenging, fun and inivitive curriculum of sports that were accessable to the whole school. We have enjoyed golf, aqua gliders, sailing and indoor surfing. She has inspried our class to take an active role in the annual dance festival held in Bath with both mainstream and special schools attending. Because of her hard work and support in athletics 2 of her students, one of whom is in Kingfisher Class, who will compete in next years Special Olympics. Her energy, enthusiasm and love of all sports makes PE sessions at our school a fantastic experience. As well as teaching in our school Rachel is an exellent athlete competing in the London Marathan, wearing red gloves so all the students can find her waving in the crowds, The Iron Man competition in Florida which our class was able to follow on the internet and many Triathlons up and down the country. She also supported one of our students to take part in the Lord Nelson a long ship for students with SEN to experience life and work on the open sea even though she sufferes from horredous sickness. The legacy that is forged by Rachel in her role of PE specialist at our school that 'everyone can achieve in sport' and by being a superb role models many more students will experience and enjoy sport for many years to come. Joined Larkrise 6.5 yrs ago. 4 boys have qualified for National Disability Champs. 2 have been selected for Special Olympics Squad. I'm a GB Triathlete-currently National Champ in my age group. Inclusion is my passion-it's a fundamental right!
