Phillip Evans

Phillip is an amateur ballroom and latin dancer. It is not only his hobby but his passion. He attends a small local dance school and spends the majority of his spare time there.

The dance students at the school are mainly girls and there are limited male partners. For competitions, all the girls have to dance with a partner. The teachers at the school are getting on in years so Phillip volunteers to dance with them.

He dedicates a lot of time to the girls practicing the routines they have been taught by the teachers and during competitions, he dances with them all, often dancing at a high proficiency and pace for a long time. Without him, the girls would not be able to compete effectively.

As well as dancing with the children at the school, he competes as a pair with his wife and dances all over the UK at a great cost both financially and in time. They have represented Wales in the World Amateur Championships.

The fact that Phillip manages to still show dedication to the children at the dance school, despite working full time and practicing and competing to his own ends means that in my eyes, and the eyes of the girls in the dance school, a local hero and we all feel it would be fantastic for him to be recognized by giving him the opportunity to be an olympic torch bearer.
