Phil has completed 27 years of voluntary service as a member of the South Wales Police Special Constabulary and holds the rank of Chief inspector. He gives up over 400 hours a year & in this time he has built up relationships with the local youth and Neighbourhood Watch. From 1999-2010 he ran a local youth club and mentored a road accident victim. In 2000 he was honoured as Special Constable of the year in South Wales Police for his service to the community In his younger years he once beat former Olympic runner Steve Cram in a 3000m race. Now involved in road safety events educating young drivers about the hazards of speed/drink/drugs effect on drivers and the sometimes fatal consequences. As a traffic cop, he may well be part of policing the torch route and it would be fitting to pass the torch to Phil.
