Philip's nomination story

Macmillan has been a part of Phil's for the last 23 years after his Mum was diagnosed with cancer in 1989. His mother, Kathleen Ann, lost her life 7 years later at 47. After seeing fourteen other close friends and Family being diagnosed with cancer all of whom had support from Macmillan, saw Phil leave for South America . When back from Peru and raising £5,120, he decided to dedicate the majority of his spare time to Volunteering and continue fund raising for Macmillan Cancer Support. He set himself a goal to raise £20,000 by 2016 to coincide with the twenty year anniversary of his mum dying of cancer. In January 2011 he raised £6,670 by tekking up Kilimanjaro and in October he completed Macmillan's first Jordan desert challenge to the Lost city of Petra, raising £4,395. So since 2008 Phil has raised £16,606 which includes non challenge fund raising. This total has inspired Phil to raise his target to£47,000 the age his mum was when she died. Phil has been an ambassador for the charity as well as a fundraiser. As an Actor he felt he uses his skills to an advantage for the charity so he trained as a speaker for Macmillan to spread the word of the many services they provide to improve the lives of people living with cancer. He delivers talks from community groups to corporate events and News paper interviews. He takes groups through his own cancer journey and those journeys the two million people living with cancer in the UK go through on a daily bases.
