Philip's nomination story

Phil has been a volunteer coach for a local youth football team: Chilcompton Football Club, since March 2011 and completed the Level 1 coaching course in May 2011. Having not played football for 15 years, this was a steep learning curve for Phil. He now runs the weekly coaching sessions and manages any matches they have. If Phil hadn't become a volunteer coach then the football club would not have been able to run a team for that age group and disappointing 15 six year olds and forcing them to play football elsewhere.

Phil has been a School Governor since April 2010, which involves shaping the strategic direction of the school. Phil has been involved in interviewing, oversight of Ofsted inspection, disciplinaries, restructuring of the leadership team, reorganisation of year 1 / 2 classes and performance management of the Headteacher. A School Governor is a very important part of any school as they effectively act like the Board of a company. Without strong and capable Governors, a school will not be able to develop and grow, and provide the appropriate environment for education.

Phil has been involved in scouting since the age of eight, first as a member of the cubs, then holding various leadership roles since the age of 18 with the cubs and scouts, including the last seven years with explorer scouts. He leads the meetings and supervises any activities that the scouts are involved in, helping to provide challenges to a group of 18 to 25 year olds and encouraging leadership. CR
