Peter's nomination story

I nominate my Father. He is 82 and has a life-long interest in rowing from his schooldays at KES, Stratford-upon-Avon. From 1947 to 1952 he was a prominent member of the town's Boat Club, as stroke in the coxed fours. The crew competed in the Olympic trials' finals in 1948 and 1952, a tremendous achievement for a provincial crew in those days. To enable them to compete, the townspeople raised funds to buy a new boat, Mistress Quickly, no mean feat in post-war Britain. Well known in the local community with family connections going back over two hundred years, he is a member of Stewards at Henley Royal Regatta, where he has competed and attended annually since his retirement in 1990. It would be a particular honour for him and enable him to be involved with the Olympic Games of both 1948 and 2012, the two occasions in his lifetime when they have been held in our great nation.
