Peter's nomination story

I am a ninety-year old Grandmother and I'd like to nominate my twelve year old grandson, Peter, to be an Olympic torchbearer. Let me tell you why he is so special. and why he so deserves this moment to shine.

Peter is, quite simply, my rock. Since my husband died 4 years ago, I have been living on my own. Every morning before going to school Peter comes to check that all is well, does any jobs that I cannot do since having my arthtritic hip replaced last year. He does my shopping, tends the garden but, most of all, he brings me hope. Earlier this year we discovered a lump in Peter's mouth. Although our worst fears were unfounded, Peter will need a lot of oral surgery to remove the tumour and reconstruct his jaw. During this very difficult time he has been a wee star, always cheerful and helping the rest of us through a very difficult time.

It would make me so proud to see my wee star carry the Olympic flame. I would love Peter to be part of it. There would be no prouder Granny. He is truly incredible. Thank you.
