Pete's nomination story

As a coach, administrator and Chairman of two national governing bodies of sport - Tennis Scotland and Weightlifting Scotland - Peter Nicolson has devoted most of his non-working life to providing opportunities, development paths and support to the Scottish community. As Chair of the award-winning Waverley Junior Open Tennis Tournament, he plays an instrumental role in the competition that has launched the international careers of Elena Baltacha, Jamie Baker and Andy Murray. Over the last ten years, Peter has also been involved in the successful bid and the Organising Committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, while acting as Board Member and Finance Director for Commonwealth Games Scotland. Peter was team tennis manager in the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games where he selected, prepared and managed a Mixed Doubles Gold Medal. Peter is a positive role model who has applied his business skills and personal attributes to the benefit of Scottish sport.
