It is a great honour to be chosen to carry the Olympic torch for London 2012. The Olympics will have tremendous impact on communities throughout the UK. At a more local level, I have been privileged to be involved in a charitable project to commemorate the life and work of a great locally-born writer, including holding a literary festival to introduce local schools and the community to the art of biography, and to establish a learning experience to educate and help regenerate an area of Scotland still suffering from loss of traditional employment.
