Peter's nomination story

In 2002 Mr. Peter Boakes underwent successful treatment for cancer. The care he received made him, and his family, want to improve the hospital facilities for others by raising funds. Their first fundraising barbeque event that they organised enabled them to present a cheque for £2,500 to the Maidstone Hospital Oncology Unit. They have continued to organise this annual barbeque event every year thereafter, held in their field for local villagers and friends. In total from 2003 to 2009 they raised £40,000 which was donated to cancer charities, in 2010 £5,500 was raised for "Help for Heroes", whilst this years barbeque raised £7,000 for the "Motor Neurone Society". The Boakes' charitable fundraising events are ongoing and will continue indefinitely to benefit the UK society 2 fold with a family fun events generated for the local community and money raised for various charities.
