Pauline's nomination story

After losing my daughter to cancer and needing long term help I started my own Bereavement Support Group. I also teach English to Refugees. The long term weekly bereavement support in Teesside is available at the local Butterwick Hospice for the families of previous patients only - due purely to lack of resources space and numbers involved. I learned this whilst a volunteer at their support group. I realised that there must be many distressed folks wandering around not knowing of where they could go for help (often in tears as I had been) so I knew that I needed to do something about it to provide a regular meeting place where they could meet others who cared and who knew EXACTLY how they felt and who were prepared to listen and offer support and friendship. My hope is that this publicity might spur others to do the same resulting in a group in every town in the UK.
