Paul from 1996 to 2006 ran the Highland cross for charity , a 25 mile hillrace followed by a 30 mile cycle race . He also cycled the highland hospice cycle on the Black Isle for charity. Paul was out Kayaking with his running /racing cycling partner Phil , who accompanied Paul on all his races , when Paul had a major stroke , a haemoarragic bleed . Paul was saved from drowning by his Pal , and then began the long road of recovery. Paul was paralysed down his left side . With inner strength and determination he recovered , also dealing with major prostate cancer surgery and a pacemaker at the same time . He is now still running and cycling for charity . Last year he cycled from London to Paris for Action Medical Research, and continues to Cycle for The hospice. He has completed the Inverness half marathon this year , and the Cape Wrath Challenge. He is the example of someone overcoming severe illness and is an example of courage to others . With his running and saviour Phil Blake , a torch change over between the two would be unforgettable. research
