Patrick Power

I wish to nominate my brother, Pat, as an Olympic Torchbearer. Pat has been Sports Development Officer in Down District Council for 14 years. His work covers all sports and abilities but is never '9 to 5'. In the past he set up and ran an athletics club and, for years, organised a special day for 100s of disabled kids as part of the Golden Cow NI Youth Games. He has coached at numerous schools and even bought a special trailer - out of his own pocket - to transport equipment around NI. In 2009 he graduated with a 1st class degree having researched the impact of sport and exercise on men's mental health. Pat's tireless dedication goes back to his days as a cross-country runner (curtailed by a traffic accident) and is unrivalled in the Down area. He lives for sport and the opportunity to carry the Olympic Torch is one he richly deserves.
