As a young teenager Joe was temporarily paralysed from his right shoulder and arm. He taught himself to write again, play guitar and trumpet, as he slowly regained his movement. This barely affected his GCSE results in which he gained 11 A* to C grades. He could no longer play his favourite sport so he joined the Saint John`s Ambulance Brigade in order to help others enjoy their sport. As he regained feeling and movement he began to rock climb. In this area he has taught others. He also volunteered at his previous school to help a group of disaffected youngsters in an after school, extra curricular event. His greatest achievement was to co-found and help a group of young people fund raise and bring into public view the project to build a local skatepark as a memorial to his friend Darren who tragically lost his life in an accident. Joe is now in line to achieve 4 A levels at outstanding grades.
