About 4 years ago my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, not only did she go on to fight it, undergoing surgery, chemo and radio therapy but she did so with courage. She missed out on the birth of her first grandchild due to her health but has not let it stop her from being an excellent mum and granny!
I recently have had to be in hospital and she was there to help out however she could., which mainly meant chasing after an energetic 3 year old whilst looking after a baby!
During her recovery she was also flooded out of her house for a year whilst it dried out but rather than complain, she sought to see how she could help others in cumbria coping with cancer and is now an active member of several community groups and advisory panels in Whitehaven and Egremont.
Most recently she is now helping to establish 'fit as a fiddle groups for Age Uk and trying to encourage people to lead active lives. This is whilst herself enjoying bowls and walking in the lakes. If anything I am starting to see how inspirational she is, despite all the setbacks she has had, and if I can be anything like half the woman she is I'll be delighted! This nomination is to say to her how very proud I am of her and pleased I can call her My Mum!
