Pam's nomination story

I became a volunteer with Special Olympics Ireland in 2010. Last year and this year I gave up 3 weeks of my annual leave to support the Games.

On the 23rd June 2011 I travelled to the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens as a Volunteer with Special Olympics Ireland. Special Olympics Ireland helps individuals who have an intellectual disability achieve their goals as well as their dreams. As a volunteer you are there to assist any individual that needs your help.

In order to travel to Athens I had to raise ?3250.00. I arranged a dress down day at work, together with a bumper raffle and cake sale. The day was a huge success and together with the generous donations from all at work and also the company I exceeded my target by raising over ?5,000.

Because of my participation in the games and also as an active volunteer many colleagues have become interested in also becoming volunteer's.

Pam has been involved in numerous fundraising activities as well as volunteering. Her enthusiasm is contagious and has influenced many in the company. As well as nominating herself, 3 of her colleagues nominated her - all of which was wholly supported by her Line Manager. CR
