Norman's nomination story

Norman is an inspirational figure in the local community of Cairnshill in south Belfast and has been at the heart of the development of activities for young people throughout his life. Professionally Norman was a teacher and principal until his retirement in 2004. During this time Norman led various voluntary youth work projects including the Boys Brigade and community outreach projects. Now at 65 Norman still remains passionate about investing in young people. He leads a youth Club in Cairnshill Methodist Church on Friday Nights and leads a team of 30 volunteers and up to 60 young people. Norman also serves on the local Newtownbreda community board and helps out in the local drop in centre. Norman also has a passion to help those in need and has been undertaking various charity activities to raise money for the Oyugus orphanage in Uganda raising thousands of pounds for food, books and sports equipment for the orphanage. Norman has served his community all his life and I would be delighted if he could be given an opportunity to carry the Olympic torch as a sign of our appreciation for all he has done for us.
