Carrying the Flame on
Nic's nomination story

When Nicola's dear sister Vanessa was diagnosed with terminal cancer, the sisters together tirelessly fundraised to improve facilities and equipment for cancer patients - a cause that soon became so close to the hearts of them and their family. Before Vanessa's death in 2007 the sisters had raised over £100,000 for charity. Mostly for Bath's Royal United Hospital but other national and local charities benefited too, including the local hospice and nationally Breakthrough Breast Cancer. With the support of their family and friends, the funds were raised in many ways i.e. every kind of walk, run, or marathon was undertaken, even wing walks were tried. Balls were organized, on line auctions to meet the stars undertaken, and supermarket packing - in fact everything that brought in funds to support the cause dearest to their hearts . Nicola has a selfless devotion to her sister and is continuing to make Pink Positive (the charitable organisation that they founded together) a force for change. Grief has not slowed her down and she is now working harder than ever to carry on the legacy that Vanessa has left and is making Pink Positive (and the strapline 'Make a negative a positive') a real tribute to her dear sister, her courage and fortitude.
