Nick's nomination story

Nick Thomas is a primary school teacher in his home village of Talysarin, who has overcome the restrictions of sight loss to pursue sporting excellence. Nick has Stargardt's disease, but it has never prevented him from enjoying competitive sport and now he helps others to tackle sight loss. In 2003 Nick became British champion in both the 100 metres and the long jump. Today he plays for the England Visually Impaired football team. Not only is Nick is a teacher at the same primary school he attended as a child, he is also called upon by local blind societies as a role model and often inspires young people newly diagnosed with sight loss that there are other pathways to follow even when it feels like your world is falling apart.
