I would like to nominate Nick Gregory for his dedication to local athletics and tireless fundraising for charity. A dedicated Committee member of Cleethorpes Athletic Club since 1990, he is a role model to other senior and junior athletes in the area. As well as giving his time to take responsibility of all the admin that goes with a voluntary club, he has helped to put on local races, attracting runners of all abilities and encouraging new inexperienced runners to take part in races for the first time. An example of this is organising a 10K road race on New Year's Day. When lots of people are still sleeping off their previous night's festivities, he is out each year, marking the course, arranging the marshals, ensuring the day runs smoothly.
As a fundraiser, he has completed 16 London Marathons, running for different charities in each one and raising thousands of pounds in the process. These range from raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy to Guide Dogs for the Blind, then after losing his father to cancer, concentrating on raising money towards Cancer Research UK.
In addition, he has raised money for the RNLI through sponsored runs and most recently, a cycle ride. On this sponsored event, he suffered the misfortune of being knocked off his bike by a car shortly after setting off , but he called in at a nearby GP surgery, where he was kindly stitched and cleaned up, then continued the rest of the ride, as he didn't want to let down those people who had sponsored him.
