Natalie's nomination story

Natalie Norman volunteers for the Marlborough Brandt Group (MBG) and for a local youth organisation.

For the Marlborough Brandt Group Natalie helped build a milling machine building in Gunjur Village, Gambia. This means young people can go to school rather than staying at home to mill the corn that is the stable diet of the country. In addition Natalie was able to contribute to the finances of the village by bringing some money in the area and spending this in local shops. She raised over £800 to work on this development project.

Natalie has been volunteering at her local youth organisation each week for the last 2 years. She has been an inspirational role model to local youths. She has been working with young people close to her own age, coaching them on all manner of personal issues and helping them to find jobs and housing. She has planned, fundraised and arrangeds activities that they wouldn't normally be able to do - this has provided some relief from the problems that they are facing.

Natalie Makes a Difference by supporting young people through challenging times by providing a shoulder to lean on, helping with any personal issues. Her work in the Gambia has had a lasting effect on the community, meaning children can go to school and has provided two more jobs to the community to look after the machinery/ongoing maintenance of the scheme.
