Myra Nimmo is Professor of Exercise Physiology and Dean of School of Sport Exercise and Health Sciences, Loughborough University. Undertaking University physiology finals and competing in the Olympics Games within 2 months of each other is testament to her commitment to all that she undertakes. Her long jump career has taken her to Commonwealth and World Student Games in addition to the Olympics and she still holds the Scottish National and native record (37 years later).
Professor Nimmo is currently working with colleagues to develop a National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine in the UK as part of the 2012 Olympic Legacy commitment. Current research continues to investigate the interplay of exercise and inflammation and how these mechanisms can be manipulated to optimise exercise interventions in a number of populations including elite athletes and those suffering from Type 2 diabetes.
