Muriel's nomination story

Muriel has been a leader in support of Health Ahead at the Maynard Centre for several years organizing training for the GE Healthcare Heroines who take part in the annual Race for Life in support of Cancer Research UK. She has given up a significant part of her spare time to encourage the entrants, either walkers or runners, to train. She organizes the training to fit in with the women's work schedules, sacrificing her lunchtimes and family time after work. This has often meant more than one session per day. She actively encourages participants to push themselves to over achieve, designing training routes that suit several abilities. Following completion of the Race for life Muriel has continued to encourage staff to exercise by maintaining the training sessions. Thanks to Muriel's encouragement and support the GE Healthcare Heroines raised £3640 in 2011 to be donated to Cancer Research UK.
