Morna's nomination story

Morna was a PE teacher prior to becoming a lecturer in physical education at Dundee University, in the Faculty of Teacher Education. She retired in 2008, at the age of 60. She has always been passionate about involving people of all ages in some form of physical activity and while taking a career break to bring up her family she started a Swingnastics Club (a mix of dance and aerobics) with a few other mums, in Tayport in 1980. The idea of the club was simple- getting people fit while raising money for charity. In the 31 years that the club has been running Morna has run the class on a voluntary basis and while the club is not constituted, it is the participants, regularly numbering about 25, who make all the decisions. This has been particularly important in deciding how the £18000 that has been raised to date would be spent and which local charity should benefit .
