Shelley has immense levels of compassion for others. When my four year old son was diagnosed with terminal cancer many friends stayed away, unable to deal with the unbearable level of pain that my husband and I were suffering. But Shelley was there for me every step of the way and was there for my husband too. Shelley is simply brilliant at knowing that people need to talk and giving them the time to do so. She is never judgemental. Where other people were critical of things that I was doing to help my son, Shelley undertood the need to put my hope any faith into something (even if that something was pixie dust!) Once when my son was extremely ill and I feared that we were losing him, Shelley raced home from a holiday abroad so that she could be with us. At at time when husband and I were too traumatised to be able to work and in financial dire straits, Shelley ensured my son had treat days out. She understood the importance of creating lasting families memories and of making the best of a short life. When my son wanted to go Disney Land, Shelley helped to raise the money. She helped me to run The London 10K, never leaving my side, she helped me to engage others to run with us and to raise the sponsorship. Most importantly she helped my sons dream to come true. Tragically my son lost his fight against cancer in January this year. Shelley is helping me to rebuild my shattered life. She is a rock, every parent affected by childhood cancer needs a Shelley.
